Germany’s largest bicycle and bicycle accessories fair in the NRW region is opening its doors to industry professionals for the 18th time. Held in parallel with Reise + Camping, Fahrrad Essen brought together over 60,000 professional visitors and more than 250 exhibitors across 20,000 m² of exhibition space last year.

The Turkish Bicycle Manufacturing Sector

Bicycle Industry Association (BİSED) Chairman of the Board Esat Emanet stated that sustainability in exports is achieved through high-quality and standardized production, emphasizing:
“European Union countries are extremely sensitive regarding bicycle standards. As Turkish brands, we must pay the utmost attention to ensuring that the bicycles we manufacture meet these expectations.”

Emanet noted that Türkiye’s bicycle exports—particularly to European Union countries—have increased year by year. He explained that the bicycle sector exported 333,000 units in 2019, adding that this success can only be sustained through quality and standardized production.

Highlighting that the positive momentum in bicycle exports has energized the sector, Emanet said:
“Our companies are implementing much more ambitious initiatives in exports. The best examples of this can be seen in electric bicycles, which have a high technology component.”

Pointing out that Turkish brands exported 12,000 electric bicycles in 2019, Emanet underlined that production and exports in this field are of critical importance for the future of the sector.

Stressing the importance of quality and standards in manufactured and exported bicycles, Emanet stated:
“If your quality and standards do not satisfy your counterparts, it becomes impossible to compete.”
He reiterated that EU countries are particularly sensitive in this regard, adding:
“Our natural market, the EU, places great emphasis on bicycle standards. We must be extremely careful to ensure that the bicycles produced by Turkish brands meet these expectations. We have identified grey areas in some exported electric bicycles. Certain models that do not fully qualify as electric bicycles can be introduced to the market by exploiting loopholes. Preventing this is crucial for increasing exports and ensuring sustainability. We will achieve sustainability through quality and standards.”
