The largest bicycle and accessories exhibition in the NRW region of Germany, Fahrrad Essen opens its doors to all industry professionals for 17th time. Fahrrad Essen, which is organized in parallel with the Reise + Camping fair, brought together 83,000 professional visitors and more than 250 exhibitors in 20,000 sqm exhibition area.

Turkish Bicycle Production Sector

Esat Emanet, Chairman of the Board of the Bicycle Industry Association (BİSED), stating that they are trying to achieve sustainability in export with high quality and standard production, said, “European Union (EU) countries have a serious sensitivity about bicycle standards. We need to pay utmost attention to the fact that the bicycles we produce as Turkish brands will meet the expectations.”

Emanet, said that Turkey, its bicycle exports to EU countries has increased with each passing year. Stating that the bicycle industry realized 333.000 exports in 2019, Emanet stated that this success can be maintained with high quality and standard production.

Emphasizing that the positive momentum in the export of bicycles excites the sector, Emanet states “Our companies are implementing more striking initiatives in terms of exports. We see the best examples of this on electric bicycles with a high technology share.”

Drawing attention to the fact that Turkish brands exported 12 thousand electric bicycles in 2019, Emanet stated that the production and export in this field is critical for the future of the industry and says “EU countries, which are our natural markets, are seriously sensitive about bicycle standards. We need to be extremely careful that the bicycles that we produce as Turkish brands will meet the expectations. We have detected gray areas in some exported electric bicycles. Some models that do not have the feature of electric bicycles can be offered. These are made using some vulnerabilities. It is important in terms of preventing them, increasing exports and sustainability. We will ensure sustainability with quality and standard.”

Stating that the domestic market performance was slightly below the expectations for the industry in terms of the sector, Emanet said: “Our users preferred more middle and economic bicycles in 2019. Therefore, the market share of the upper segment bikes remained below our predictions. In addition to this, we foresee a much more efficient domestic market in 2020 with positive economic data and positive increase in confidence indices. In particular, we expect the electric bicycle market to grow further.”
